Returning from a Swiss business trip, laser firm executive Mark Bretherick finds his wife Geraldine and their kid daughter in the bathtub, bled to death, possibly suicide but there's note not known motive. Country county police chief Proust gives the lead in this case to recent London transferee, detective sergeant Charlie Zailer.
