VH1 Storytellers: In July 1999, David Bowie was voted the biggest music star of the century by readers of Britain's Sun newspaper. In the same month, he was voted the sixth Greatest Star of the Century by Q magazine and its readers. "David Bowie: Storytellers" features songs and stories from throughout Bowie's prolific career. Among his revelations: Of "Word on A Wing," from "Station to Station," Bowie says: "1975, 1976, and a bit of 1974, and the first few weeks of 1977, were singularly the darkest days of my life. I found myself up to my neck in such negativity. And it was so steeped in awfulness that recall is nigh on impossible, certainly painful...unwittingly 1/8the song 3/8 was therefore a signal of distress. I'm sure it was a call for help." Bowie sings "the first song I wrote and recorded as a solo artist...it's a beautiful piece of solipsism... called 'Can't Help Thinking About Me.' And it does contain, though some might disagree, two of the worst lines I've ever written: 'My girl calls my name, Hey, Dave, drop in, come back, see you around if you're this way again.' "
