The Looney Tunes Show: "An Ounce of Prevention" is a public service safety film, made for the Shriners Burns Institute in Cincinnatti, Executive Produced by Noel Blanc and Blanc Communications in 1982. The film begins with Mel Blanc in a TV control booth, who introduces himself and his Looney Tune creations (Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, Tweety and Sylvester) who are superimposed in cel animation. Mel shows us a film about Beth & Tommy, two cute live action kids who wake up one morning to find Bugs Bunny in the kitchen. Instead of showing them how to make Kool-Aid, Bugs warns them about touching hot pots on the stove, dangers of electric coffee makers and keeping cookie jars away from the stove. Bugs diverts the kids to the garage where "Professor Sylvester" (in graduates cap) shows them his "Un-Cook Book" and magic glasses which will help prevent them from burning themselves from water heaters. He also shows the kids how to store gasoline. Sylvester then directs the kids to the bathroom where his pal Tweety instructs the kids on how dangerous the bathroom can be (mainly scalding hot water in the tub). Daffy then greets the kids in their bedroom, where the duck (in a fireman's hat) gives them a quiz on how to be burn-proof (with smoke detectors and escape routes). This is the first half of the film. Daffy then reports back to Mel & Bugs in the control booth, who next roll a film about a little girl, Jennifer, who scalds herself in the bathtub. This section, done in classic classroom-shock film style, is narrated by a terse announcer who takes us on a tour of the Shriners Burns Institute where we see doctors treat hideous leg burns on young children (to quote Bugs from 1942, "Gruesome, Isn't It?"). Some of this is done from first-person camera P.O.V., as doctors put "us" under anesthetic and then we watch the doctors remove "our" charred flesh! YECCCCHHH!!! We endure skin grafts and recovery room therapy with lots of burn-victim playmates. We finally return to Mel, wearing his cool Shriners fez, while holding little Jennifer in his lap (to quote Daffy from 1943, "What do you know? It was all a dream!"). The new animation was produced by Hal Geer and directed by Gerry Chiniquy. Someone named Patrick Baily produced and directecd the live action parts.
