The series centers around a mother and daughter who both attend Santa Monica College. Nikki Parker (played by Mo'Nique) was forced to drop out of high school when she discovered she was pregnant with daughter Kim (played by Countess Vaughn). After Kim reaches adulthood, Nikki finally decides to go back to school. Kim is initially mortified with this decision, but eventually accepts the situation.
